This is a long overdue post. Sorry guys for the delay.. I can't even remember the exact date. (was it on the 19th?) Blame it on the dissertation!
But, no doubt, it was a great evening. We needed to get away from our work once in a while (very badly in fact) and there is Kimm to the rescue.(as always!) Thanks Kimm! Gonna miss you guys too!

ma'am...wassup? so, what's your summer plans and post-graduation arrangements? how's the weather there? hot? Fri 1-Sep-2006 17:23

Fun day out with my dearest flatmates. B.B.Q.O.T.B - That's Juhi's 'copyrighted' theme for the day (her acronym for Barbeque On The Beach )

A great way to unwind after a long dreadful week (for me at least!). Almost cancelled the plan at the last minute but luckily we didn't, and we were really glad we made it happen! Having roughly two more months to live together, I think we should do something like this again some other weekend ay? Heard Guliya has plans all lined up already! Cheeky girl!

Btw, Paudi, you owe me a trip to the halal store in Newcastle ok? I am running out of chicken

helloooo miss.....thankyou for upholding my copyright(heh heh!!!) . had loads of fun yesterday..... Sun 16-Jul-2006 18:22

Durham Miners Gala Festival

View all 18 photos...
Went down to town with Sandy, Anna, Sarah and Tanya for the Durham Miners Gala Festival (something that I just got to know the day before from Sarah, lucky Sandy!) The town was packed with paraders carrying banners, brass bands and people from all over Durham. Durham packed with people, hmm.. quite a rare sight I must say.

The Durham Miners Gala is a festival usually held on the second Saturday of July every year. This event dated back to the 1870s, when coal mining was the main economic activity in the North East. Started of as a 'Big Meeting' or gathering amongst the miners and their families, this event has developed to become the biggest miners and trade unions gathering in the UK.

It then became an annual event where banners representing different coal mines were paraded around Durham by the miners and trade unions. Even after the closure of all these coal mines, the tradition is still continued by families, friends and supporter of the union, which is what we see here today.

Hi Anin, very good info on Durham Miners' Gala. I agree with you that it is a very rare to see so many people in Durham! That is only what I called a city, mah! Mon 24-Jul-2006 21:47

Sandy was here for the weekend after her audit assignment somewhere near Hull. Brought her around the usual places - walk by the riverbank, our very very small town, the Cathedral, the Castle, pancake shop (all of which I still can't get enought of!) and next day to the Gala Miners Festival and Newcastle. Thank you Sandy for coming over, the nice long chats and helping me with grocery shopping! Sorry la bully you drive me around.. I don't have car ma!

Can't believe Nur is leaving! She's leaving Durham for good, back to sunny Singapore and will be reunited with her loved ones very very soon. I so envy her! I wanna go home too! Felt bad for not being in the best state of health during her last few days in Durham and not really really spend time with her.

Some shots from the farewell dinner (for a change, I am hosting! Hehe) and packing sessions.. I am really really bad at saying goodbyes but I know for sure I'll miss her company. It's okay, am gonna see you in Malaysia very soon kan, Nurie?

Sepetang sesi menurun ilmu from the sifu at the very gorgeous Durham Cathedral.

As always, enchanted by the beauty of this place, we feel as if we were in a different world, a different era.
