Ewa turns 2* today

Had a potluck party at the business school.. I made er... some curry/spicy chicken (the dried version, sthing like ayam masak rempah) and vegetarian pasta... The menu for the nite was very very international..I particularly loved Adli's Libyan Salmon dish.. (yeap, salmon ) yumss..

It's also a reason for us to celebrate after submitting our Methods of Inquiry assignment (which has been 'cracking' all of us to the core for the past week! )

Travelling back alone - Venice - Milan - Bergamo - Newcastle

A glimpse of Milan
Bergamo

View all 9 photos...
Nur had to go back to Rome to settle her travel documents with the Consulate office. I had to go back as planned as I have class the next day and it would cost us at least another 150euros if i were to stay and accompany her to Rome (RyanAir dont do refund).
We somehow manage to arrange to take trains leaving Venice at about the same time.
My train to Milan was scheduled about half an hour after Nur's left for Rome. After leaving Nur, I was like, shoots... I am alone!!! going to a place very unfamiliar, never been before.

I do travel alone a lot in UK but after that incident, i got a little bit scared and overly paranoid.. what if i board the wrong train? how do i get to bergamo from milan? what if i take the wrong bus? i kept on asking a few people to confirm, again and again, does this train goes to milano? are you sure this bus goes to bergamo? agak takut la.. the last thing i want to happen is taking the wrong train/bus, missing my flight and stranded in milan! ALONE!

when i was reassured by the bus driver that i will reach my destination, in the one hour bus-ride to the airport, i kept on reflecting on our trip in italy and praying that everything will go on smoothly for nur (i still feel bad for leaving her in italy)

Anyways, it just feels great to be back!

*nur arrived back safely the next day - alhamdulillah-*

yup.. especially kat rome la.. grafitti byk gile tak ingat... (refer entry 18th feb)selagi boleh conteng dia conteng.. even kat colloseum pun org carve grafitti and holes here and there.. sayang je... apa la org italy nih... dah la suke curik barang org! i heard barcelona is equally bad eh, aiya kena extra careful la lepas nih.. Italy trip - Venice

Arrived early early morning...
Still very misty
Carnivale..
View all 24 photos...
I am going to say this again... Venice is sssoooooo beautiful.. Very scenic (?)
It's a pity we can't get to capture much of the beauty on photo.... The images are all in our heads now..

It was THE Venice Carnivale the weekend we were there. Cool to see the people on the streets all dressed up for the Carnivale.

Here's a glimpse of Venice...

*camera not enough memory space and battery went off! #$%@%@ *

A tribute to The Outdoor Museum, Roma

Unflattering side of Rome..
Tiamo? Obviously not to your country!!
Rubbish and graffiti has inspired...
View all 17 photos...
We bumped into this 'museum' while walking from Piazza del Papolo to Piazza Navona in a small lane somewhere near Mausoleo Agusto. You wouldn't know the 'gems' you'll find when you travel on foot!

The museum was 'inspired' by the dirty and grafitti-marred lanscape of Rome.
(It's quite shocking to see soo many graffitis on MOST of the buildings here, and also rubbish here and there. That was the first thing I noticed about Rome and told Nur upon arrival, on the way from the airport to town)

Anyhows, although the 'curator' is a little bit 'weng' (he started talking to himself after we left him! ), i still find the museum pretty cool..

Sorry for the long overdue post - busy, busy with assignment -

Went to Italy with Nur for approx 4 days from Friday and back on Monday..

Some of you must've known what happened to us there..

In summary we were in Rome for 2 days.. Rome was GGRRREEATT! We tried to cover as much as possible and walked quite a lot, which I think is kinda cool cos u bumped into a lot of interesting places along the way.. I liked the maps provided, very accurate and comprehensive (all the important sites are highlighted), the map also include the metro lines.

After Rome, we took a night train to Venice (that was when the incident happened, someone stole nur's bag while we were sleeping - passport, purse all gone)

Spent most of the time in Venice going back and forth to the internet cafe, police station and train station. But I must say Venice is a LOVELY, i mean LOVELY city.. subhanallah it's just sooo beautiful.. and romantic!

One day insyaAllah i'll go there again...

*sorry not that many pictures of the places we visited - most of them are in Nur's camera which got stolen together with the bag*

The Magnificent Colloseum

Excerpt from http://nurhidayati.blogspot.com/2006/02/innalillah-in-italy.html

I'm reminded of a little quote that we used to write in our friends' autograph books in primary school... "A friend in need is a friend indeed". Though I used to think it was cheesy, I find meaning in it now. This part of my post is to express how thankful I am to Anin for being such a wonderful source of support (more important than money!) when it all happened... and more importantly, to say sorry for ruining her trip to Italy. I don't know what I would have done without her... I know she must have felt so disappointed for not being able to sightsee Venice proper (we only managed to walk around at night, after settling everything)... but she was unselfish, calm, organised and was a tremendous help sorting out my thoughts. Its easy to feel berkecamuk, overwhelmed and lost when something like that happens, so far away from home, without our daddies. I only started crying when I called Ayah few hours after the incident and heard his voice. But with Anin's help, we managed to get a grip on the situation and I think we can proudly say we handled things pretty well yeah Anin? I don't know how to thank you... I don't think I can ever say it enough. And right till the end, when I got back to Durham, was really touched when Anin cooked me dinner for 2 nights! and I'm really sorry for throwing up on the 2nd night! Heee... alhamdulillah, the physical symptoms of shock are gone now... no more nausea, paranoia and difficulty to concentrate! Anyway, I must say, that even before it all happened, you were a wonderful travel buddy... and I really enjoyed Rome! Well, like you said Anin, may the gorgeous images of Rome and Venice be engraved in our memories always. You know what keeps flashing in my mind Anin, that picture of you praying on the grass with the beautiful Colloseum in the background. Sigh....Takpelah... Allah has His reasons for testing both of us. Maybe, just maybe, we are not meant to share their photos with our loved ones like we always do as we are meant to return with them one day. Who knows? I know my Ibu would love Venice... so would yours! InsyaAllah...

East is East - Gala Theatre Durham

East is East
On the way..
Nur in front of Gala
View all 13 photos...
Went to watch a play at Gala Durham with Nur n Juhi

East is East - a comedy production by Pilot Theatre, from Yorkshire, about the culture clash facing a half-Pakistani family set up in Selford in the 1970s. It also displays the dilemma facing the father, who is married to an English lady, raising his 7 children and trying to maintain the culture and religion of his origin.

A very stimulating performance (as how Juhi puts it ).. Something I think Asian ppl like us could relate to.. with a pinch of comedy and Hindi songs along the way.. was great fun n had a good laugh..

My idea of a girls nites out!

For more info about the production, check out

Me dad's in Durham!!!

Ayah was here in Durham for 3 nites before heading back to KL. Had a lot of 'pep talk' session with Ayah. Thank you. I appreciate 'em soo much.. Very timely indeed! Been having too much fun now! Anyhows, I missed his company so much now.. Feels so different when you have your family around you.. And I must say I have learnt quite a lot about my uni, Durham and Newcastle within that 3 days he was here. I never bothered to know those things if it wasnt for Ayah asking me so many questions. I shall remember now, that I cant live in silos, oblivious to what is happening around me. Keep yourself updated will ya, Anin!!

Bumped into some of Ayah's previous colleagues from the university and .... Saliny's mum in Newcastle! What a pleasant surprise. Such a small world. Enjoyed exploring the town with my dad. Most of the places we visited were my first-times as well..

We also went to Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery. They were exhibiting the 'work-of-art' of Spencer Tunick at Level 2, which i find quite disgusting. The things people call and do for 'art'?! (thought of giving the link here, but then forget it, you guys google for it yourselves la! hihi)

Pardon me for the bad photography whilst in Newcaslte. My camera somehow, got jammed. The screen blanked all the time. Must be the weather. Though it may look sunny, it was freezing cold that Saturday. I was just trying my luck clicking away, hoping to get something out of it. Luckily some of the pictures turned out quite alrite.

Enjoy the pictures.. Me miss me family now!! huhuhu

he he .. me ok oredi.. sorry la a bit emotional the other day... huhuhu... blame it on the weather!! has been gloomy for the past week, hence my gloominess.. Tue 14-Feb-2006 20:51

Met a new friend today - Sarina (Kak Wan's sis-in-law). First time jumpa, although she's been around for about 2 months now. Shows how 'busy' I've been.

Me and Nur accompanied her to check out the options available for ACCA courses in Newcastle and then to our grocery shopping at the Asian store. Nur bought A LOT of stuffs. We could open a mini-grocery shop here is Howlands Farm. Next feast coming up eh?

Spent so much time in Newcastle that we were late from picking up Iman and Ihsan from school. Auw, how I missed the boys. Havent seen them for quite a while. I think the last time I saw them was in November. Seronok layan depa. Naughty.. naughty boys.. We'll chat through YM somemore ok Iman? You guys are sooo cute.. And no Iman, I dont have a boyfriend.. ha ha..

oh, btw, i drove today! it feels soo good to be behind the wheels again... lama sih tak bawak kete..

We are really sad she had to leave.. ..

Part of us hoped that she would change her mind at the airport, which is highly unlikely though..

Again and again I'm going to say this... we are gonna miss u!!

See you in Hamburg soon!!
